  12. This software consists of a Disk Copy compressed image,
  13. which requires Disk Copy 6.1 or later to use. Download this
  14. software to your hard drive and then double-click it to use
  15. it. Disk Copy is available in the Utilities folder.

  19. Important information about the 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update
  20. extension, beta release.

  22. This document provides information about the 7.6.1 Streaming
  23. Audio Update extension version 1.0b2.  This extension has
  24. not been fully qualified, and it is considered
  25. 'unsupported'. It may be used at your own risk. Apple
  26. Computer, Inc. cannot provide support for this extension by
  27. telephone, fax or email.

  29. The 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update extension alleviates one
  30. cause of poor performance when using internet streaming
  31. media applications on certain Macintosh computers.  Internet
  32. streaming media can also be adversely affected by poor
  33. connections or poor latency to a server.

  35. The 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update extension can be installed
  36. on Mac OS 7.6.1, 7.6, or 7.5.5.  The extension will not load
  37. on earlier system releases.  The streaming audio improvement
  38. delivered in this extension will be included in future
  39. releases of Mac OS, and the extension will not load on
  40. releases after 7.6.1.

  76. How to Install the 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update extension

  78. To install the 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update extension follow
  79. these steps:

  81. 1. Locate the System Folder on the computer's hard disk.
  82. Don't open the System Folder.
  83.  
  84. 2. Drag the file named "7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update" to the
  85. System Folder.
  86.  
  87. 3. A message appears asking if you want to put the "7.6.1
  88. Streaming Audio Update" into the Extensions folder. Click
  89. OK. If a second message appears stating that "7.6.1
  90. Streaming Audio Update" already exists and asks you if you
  91. would like to replace it, click OK.

  93. 4. Open the Special menu and choose Restart.

  98. Poor streaming audio performance can occur from slow
  99. internet connections, slow servers, or while the computer is
  100. engaged in other work concurrently.  On some specific
  101. revisions of the listed computer models, an additional cause
  102. of poor streaming audio performance was an interaction with
  103. the serial driver software, sound driver software, and
  104. serial hardware.

  106. The 7.6.1 Streaming Audio Update extension changes the
  107. behavior of the serial and sound driver software to better
  108. support the demanding, real time nature of streaming audio. 
  109. At times when the sound driver is busy servicing the sound
  110. hardware, extra checks are made to ensure that the serial
  111. driver can properly service the serial hardware.  For some
  112. computers this results in a significant improvement in
  113. streaming audio performance.
